New World Class Data Center from Turkcell to Turkey

Turkcell, which has invested more than 2.5 billion Turkish lira in new generation data centers with the vision that Turkey’s data should stay in Turkey, has realized its new investment in this field in Kapaklı district of Tekirdağ. The opening ceremony of the European Data Center was hosted by Turkcell Chairman of the Board Bülent Aksu and Turkcell General Manager Murat Erkan with the participation of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, Governor of Tekirdağ Aziz Yıldırım. The state-of-the-art European Data Center was also a first in Turkey with a localization rate of 75%. Turkcell, Turkey’s largest data center operator, brought a total of 8 data centers to our country.

Continuing its activities with the vision of “Let Turkey’s data stay in Turkey”, Turkcell brought another new generation data center to Turkey.

Turkcell Europe Data Center, built in accordance with world standards and equipped with the latest technology, was opened in Tekirdağ, hosted by Turkcell Chairman Bülent Aksu and Turkcell General Manager Murat Erkan, with the participation of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu and Tekirdağ Governor Aziz Yıldırım. It was held in Kapaklı district of Turkey. Together with the European Data Center, which was established on an area of 37 thousand 277 square meters and has a white area of ​​7 thousand 238 square meters, the amount of investment made by Turkcell in this area has exceeded 2.5 billion TL.

“Our domestic data center is indispensable”

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu emphasized that Turkey evaluates the issue of cyber security within the scope of national security today. Underlining that the issue of protecting data and data privacy has become an issue of great importance on the international platform, Karaismailoğlu said that it is extremely important for institutions to make their investments with this approach, based on the view that “Turkey’s data should remain in Turkey”.

“Domestic data center investments are indispensable for the privacy of the data of our country, our citizens and businesses that create value for this country,” said Karaismailoğlu, adding, “In the information and communication sector, storing and backing up data against all kinds of natural disasters and physical and cyber attacks is of vital importance. In this sense, Turkcell’s European Data Center, which we have inaugurated today, is a strong and redundant technology investment. The fact that the data center has a local rate of 75 percent is also a valuable development. It is extremely important in terms of information redundancy and security of Gebze data centers.”

While ending his speech, Minister Karaismailoğlu wished the data center to be beneficial to our nation and wished the Turkcell family continued success.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the European Data Center, Turkcell Chairman of the Board Bülent Aksu said:

As a new step towards this goal, we are proud and happy to offer the Turkcell European Data Center, which we opened today, to the service of public institutions, the private sector and the countries of the region.

We find it very valuable to adopt and rapidly implement national policies that encourage investments in order to strengthen our country’s position as a ‘regional base’. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our President for encouraging us by paving the way for the development of domestic and national technologies in Turkey, as well as our Minister for whose support we always feel, and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.”

“We are protecting the Cyber Homeland with our new generation data centers”

Emphasizing that they define data security as ‘Cyber Homeland’, Turkcell General Manager Murat Erkan said, “As Turkcell, we see data as a national issue. For many years, we have been making our investments accordingly, saying “Turkey’s data should stay in Turkey”. It is our duty to protect our national wealth, data, against global risks and threats. We are rapidly increasing our localization rate in the data centers we have built in this direction. In our European Data Center, which we opened today, our locality rate reached 75 percent, making it the data center with the highest locality rate in Turkey. As we have done so far, we will continue our efforts to protect our data and keep it within the borders of the country. On this occasion, we wish our new data center good luck to Turkey.”

40 thousand points are constantly monitored with 6 thousand sensors

The European Data Center, 85 kilometers from Istanbul Airport, is resistant to an earthquake of magnitude 9 and continues to serve immediately after the earthquake. In the data center, where the doors and walls are resistant to fire for 120 minutes, 40,000 points are constantly monitored with 6 thousand sensors. Turkcell Europe Data Center also provides hosting, cloud computing, access, backup, cyber security, disaster recovery, managed services and device supply services to institutions thanks to its Tier III certificate. The European Data Center also has the “Leed Gold” certificate, which certifies that it is compatible with green buildings and the environment.

The rate of locality in Turkey’s most technological data center is 75%

The European Data Center, which is the most technological data center in Europe and Turkey today, also draws attention with being the data center with the highest local rate. Using 75 percent domestic production throughout the building, Turkcell provides service in its new data center with air conditioning systems, cabinets and power supplies developed by domestic manufacturers.
