Domestic servo motors and motion control solutions are used in weapon systems developed by Turkish defense industry companies and offered to security forces.
According to the information received by the AA correspondent, WAT Motor Industry and Trade Inc., which has 60 years of experience in electric motor production in Turkey, has recently started to offer the capabilities developed with industrial motors to different sectors such as defence, automotive and energy.
Developing special purpose motors and system solutions for the defense and aerospace industry, WAT provides service to the Turkish defense industry with motor, servo motor and drivers, motion control solutions and system designs.
Focusing especially on military servo motors and their drivers, the company manufactures at a workshop scale with “jewelry meticulousness” for military needs. While creating a product family that allows precise positioning in the drive of the gun turrets of military vehicles, it can meet the needs of turrets of different calibers with the developed engines. In this way, weapon systems perform precise positioning and perform their duties with high performance.
“We get performance above the performance of the European manufacturer”
WAT Motor Products and Projects Leader Barış Tuğrul Ertuğrul told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they have directed their long years of experience in electric motors to motion control systems in the defense industry since 2019.
Expressing that they want to support the defense industry, which is very important for the country and is a source of pride for its development in recent years, with its technology and infrastructure, Ertuğrul said:
“Serving the defense industry is both a duty for our country and an opportunity for the emergence of high-tech, value-added products. Since 2019, we have been working as the solution partner of Turkey’s leading defense industry organizations. In this sense, we provide both design and design to defense industry organizations. We produce the products needed by using our own R&D power as well as the mass production of the products belonging to the company.We design all the processes from a white paper to the use of the systems in the products.
In this sense, we studied the precision positioning systems in weapon systems. We didn’t just stay on the engine side, we also worked on electronics in our own systems. In order to reveal the performance of the electric motor, it was necessary to develop systems in which motion control systems, in which embedded software work, result in high performance. We created our electronic team. As of the point we have reached, we get performance above the performance of the well-known European manufacturer in our original electronic motor drives. We have proven this in on-system, environmental and field tests.”
The heart of weapon systems
Barış Tuğrul Ertuğrul said that the products they developed are used in ASELSAN’s Sarp Remote Controlled Stabilized Weapon System, Korkut Self-Propelled Barrel Low Altitude Air Defense Weapon System, Gökdeniz Close Air Defense System and Volkan-II Tank Fire Control System.
Ertuğrul stated that they carried out the design, production and tests of the electronics and engine of the actuator set in the Mızrak Remote Controlled Tower System developed by Otokar.
Expressing that they are supported on industrial servo motors within the scope of the Technology-Oriented Industrial Move Program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ertuğrul noted that they continue to work to create a product family in the defense industry by using this support.
