In the first power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), which is under construction in the Gülnar district of Mersin, it has been announced that the third layer of the reactor section interior protection building has been installed.
In the statement made by Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., it was informed that the third layer of the interior protection building, which is a welded metal structure, consists of 24 sections, each 11.5 meters high, 5.8 meters wide and weighing 13.4 tons.
The interior protection building will consist of a total of 4 layers and 1 dome. The building will also undergo a leak test after the assembly of all its components is completed.
The exterior protection building will also be designed to be resistant to all kinds of external effects
In the statement, which included the information that the height of the reactor building has increased, Akkuyu Nuclear AŞ First Deputy General Manager and NGS Construction Affairs Director Sergei Butckikh said that the layer was installed in the position envisaged in the design.
“We have had a good pace to complete phases of the main construction. The next key installation works will be carried out on the second power unit this summer. These will include the installation of the reinforced concrete beam of the reactor shaft, the second layer of the containment building and the support beam. In the third unit, the concreting of the turbine building foundation plate will be carried out. We have completed it and soon the foundation plate of the reactor building will be ready.”
Butckikh said that Akkuyu NPP’s reactor buildings will be equipped with two-layer protection buildings, and the outer protection building made of reinforced concrete is designed to withstand all kinds of extraordinary external effects.
