Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank called for investment in the steel industry

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank made a call for investment in the steel industry at the European Green Consensus Workshop he attended. Stating that he has not been successful in making qualified steel investments in the sector since the day he became the Minister, Minister Varank said, “The sector is banging its head against the walls right now. Don’t take the easy way out. Now is the time to act.” gave the message.

Iron, Steel, Metal Products Production Technologies Fair Metal Expo started at Istanbul Expo Center. On the first day of Metal Expo, a European Green Consensus Workshop was organized by the Turkish Construction Steel Association under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop held in coordination with the Turkish Steel Producers Association, Minister Varank said:

It will continue without slowing down

This year, our industrial sector continues on its way with a very good momentum. According to our projection, this acceleration will continue unabated in the next 2-3 years. In this sense, our steel industry is a sector that provides serious inputs and serious gains this year with the contribution of exports. But since the day I became the Minister of Industry and Technology, unfortunately, I have not been successful in making qualified steel investments in the steel industry.

We talk, but we have been talking about stainless steel since the day we took office, we have been talking about silicon steel since the day we took office, but unfortunately we cannot see these investments in our country. Of course, I also know that the industry is banging its head against the walls right now; Oh, I wish we had made our investments so that we could make better use of the opportunities this year and next year.

The state is doing its best

Let me remind you again, please do not take the easy way out, when we say protectionism, our government does its best to protect the steel industry. Nobody can deny this. When we say energy costs, it is obvious that you use energy at much more affordable prices than in Europe.

We are ready as a ministry

Please let the steel industry start its investments in the areas that our country needs and import billions of dollars, and let’s start to meet our own needs from our country as soon as possible whether it is stainless steel, silicon steel or other qualified steel products. In this sense, we are ready as the Ministry of Industry and Technology. We want to do our best, but let’s not talk about these things for another 5 years, I say it’s time for action.
